New Kiva Book Editor

The Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society is pleased to announce that Dr. Robert J. Stokes will join the Kiva editorial team as book reviews editor. He will seek books -ranging from monographs and edited volumes, to popular books, text books, and CRM reports about archaeology, ethnography, history, and allied subjects of interest to AAHS membership and invite reviewers to provide published commentary. Dr. Stokes has been practicing archaeology since 1988, and in the U.S. Southwest since 1991. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1990, his Master’s degree in Anthropology from Eastern New Mexico University in 1995, and his Doctorate in Anthropology from the University of Oklahoma in 2003. His research interests include settlement patterns and landscape use, landscape archaeology approaches, household and community interactions, the Spanish Colonial period, historical archaeology, ceramic analysis, and cultural resource management. He has numerous peer reviewed publications, including three in Kiva since 2000, and several edited book chapters. His edited book, Communities and Households in the Greater American Southwest, was published by the University of Colorado Press in 2019 and he is currently working on another with the University of Utah Press. After working 14 years in Arizona as a principal investigator with cultural resource management firms and 4.5 years as the New Mexico State Parks archaeologist in Santa Fe, he became an assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology and Applied Archaeology at Eastern New Mexico University in 2018 and is currently the chair of the department. He will work closely with the journal editors Dr. Tom Rocek and Dr. Alison Rautman. Dr. Stokes can be contacted at robert.stokes@enmu.edu.
